Metoda valueOf(char c) klase Character vraća instancu Character koja predstavlja zadanu vrijednost char. Ako novi objekt Character nije potreban, tada se metoda treba koristiti umjesto konstruktora Character(char).
Gore navedena metoda vjerojatno će pružiti bolju prostornu i vremensku izvedbu. Ova će metoda spremiti u predmemoriju vrijednosti u rasponu od 'u0000' do 'u007F' i možda postoje neke mogućnosti za spremanje u predmemoriju ostalih vrijednosti izvan raspona.
